Owner-Operator Cost Per Mile, Explained

Your cost per mile is the single number that decides if a load makes money. Here is how to find yours and use it on every offer.

What goes into cost per mile

Fixed costs like your truck payment and insurance, plus variable costs like fuel, tires, and maintenance. Add your own pay too. If you do not pay yourself, the load math lies to you.

Turn it into a floor

Divide your total monthly cost by your loaded miles for the month. That is your cost per mile. Add 20 to 40 percent on top and never book below it.

Run your own number
